This is a selection of letters that reveal an unfamiliar side of Greek literature. Many of them are light-hearted and funny, and describe the lives of ordinary people - fishermen, farmers, courtesans. Others look at more serious and philosophical aspects of life. All the letters are translated, and the notes offer help to both expert and less informed readers.
