Natural History of the Long Expedition to the Rocky Mountains (1819-1820)

Bok av Howard Ensign Evans
This book describes the expedition of Stephen Long in 1819 and 1820 to explore the territories acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. The group left Pittsburgh and travelled to the vicinity of present Omaha by streamboat in 1819. During the following summer, by foot and horseback, they explored the western plains and the Front Range of the Rockies. It was the first exploration of the Lousiana Territory to be accompanied by trained naturalists and artists, and it brought back accounts and illustrations of many newly discovered landforms, plants, and animals as well as accounts of Native Americans, many of which are included in this work.
