Dvořák to Duke Ellington : a conductor explores America's music and its African American roots

The prominent symphony conductor Maurice Peress describes his career, conducting the premier of such works as Leonard Bernstein's Mass and Duke Ellington's Queenie Pie and recreating the premier of the concert featuring George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Ellington's Black, Brown and Beige. He also traces the great impact that African-American music has had upon American music, from the influence of compser Antonin Dvork through the 1920s.
