Apes, Language, and the Human Mind

For more than twenty years, Sue Savage-Rumbaugh has been studying and attempting to prove the linguistic and cognitive skills of a number of laboratory-reared primates. Recently, her work with Kanzi (a bonobo) has been acknowledged as achieving a scientific breakthrough of stunning proportions. Apes, Language, and the Human Mind discusses the theoretical and conceptual implications of Savage-Rumbaugh's work for cognitive, developmental, and linguistic research, and uses it as a spring board to argue for a radical revision of the sciences of language and mind.
