A Christmas Garland

Bok av Max Beerbohm
"A Christmas Garland" was first published in 1912, and has long been out of print. It consists of 17 parodies with a Christmas theme of some of the most renowned authors of the period - including Kipling, Henry James, Thomas Hardy, H.G. Wells and Conrad - written by Max Beerbohm, whose reputation as a humourist and writer remains high. It is regarded as one of the finest collection of parodies in the English language, and is now published with 32 caricatures of the authors, drawn by Beerhohm. In a brief introduction, John Hall looks at the nature of parody and cariature, and its relationship to the original work. He provides details of the authors parodied; both Beerbohm's comments on them (on Shaw: "my admiration for his genius has been marred for me by dissent from almost any view that he holds about anything"); and also provides background information on those authors who are no longer so widely known.
