Constable Correspondence

The nature of Constable's upbringing in a Suffolk village is shown with a new clarity and intensity from the 280 surviving letters he exchanged with his parents and brothers and sisters. This is a most revealing volume, stripping away many of the misconceptions we may had entertained about Constable and incidentally providing a vivid picture of life in an English village in the early years of the nineteenth century.
