George 'Speedy' Gonzales, an investigator with the Galactic Empire Bureau of Investigation, is murdered on the world of Dwyer. They suspect that Ramon Salazar - who operates the Golden Key Nightclub - had ordered his enforcers, Peter Reed and Grisell brothers, Gus & Gris, to murder Gonzales.It had become a matter of principle with the old Global Bureau of Investigation, back on Earth, if an investigator was murdered, another investigator would revenge his or her murder. It had become known as a 'Midnight Run.' A 'Midnight Run' was a metaphor for 'terminate with extreme prejudice.' Investigator Douglas T. Kincaid volunteered to make the 'Midnight Run' to the world of Dwyer to revenge Investigator Gonzales' murder.When Investigator Kincaid learned that Michael D'Angelo controlled the crime syndicate in Mobley, on the world of Dwyer, and Mobley Security was on D'Angelo's payroll, he changed the rules of engagements. When the dust settled, D'Angelo's criminal empire lay in ruins.
