The Complete Poetical Works: Volume VI

Bok av George Gordon Byron
These two volumes bring to completion the Oxford English Texts Byron. Volume VI covers the years 1821-2, {hen Byron wrote six of his eight dramas including the masterpieces Sardanapalus and Cain, and his incomparable satire The Vision of Judgement. The volume also prints several uncollected or unpublished short poems. As with the earlier volumes, the texts have been subjected to a deep critical examination and process of correction. There are extensive notes, and a thorough apparatus supports the editorial judgements and decisions. Included in Volume VII are the poems from 1823-4 when Byron joined the Greeks in their struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire. Amongst these are the neglected late satire The Age of Bronze, his treatment of the Bounty mutiny, The Island, and his greatest lyric poem, `January 22nd 1824. Messalonghi. On this day I complete my thirty-sixth year'. Important features of this volume are a set of appendices dealing with the corpus of Byron's work; texts of newly authenticated poems; and a list of unauthentic poems. The volume also contains comprehensive indexes for the entire edition, comprising indexes of titles, of first lines, of all the poems including page number, and a general index.
