Utter Silence explores the shifting boundaries of the unspeakable in twentieth-century Western culture. The contributors probe such taboos as the Holocaust, Marx' legacy, bulimia, and tuberculosis in the context of literature and the picture story book, TV and film, social knowledge, and political science.
