The 2nd edition of Dunn's The Practical Researcher: A Student Guide to Conducting Psychological Research offers many new and enhance features and additions including a new section on fMRI/brain-imaging research and other non-invasive methods for measuring brain activity. The text offers updated online searching materials reviewed by reference librarians; updated sample references written in APA style; new material on learning to identifying the embedded outline found in published APA style papers as a way to learn to outline papers; additional discussion of diary studies, 'beeper' studies, and experience sampling methods. A new Preface and Acknowledgements is also included, as well as updated suggested references and at the end of each chapter. Furthermore, the text offers a brief section on the relation between statistical significance, effect size, and replication of results in light of the example of Bem's ESP research and information on using PowerPoint effectively. A few chapters include a rubric for helping plan and deliver oral presentations as well as revised and updated Exercises to reflect changes and additions to the earlier edition.
