Lipids and syndromes of insulin resistance : from molecular biology to clinical medicine

Bok av I Klimes
The insulin resistance syndrome describes a cluster of diseases including glucose intolerance, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemias, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease; these diseases tend to co-express in individuals and are likely to share a common aetiology. This volume explores the role in this syndrome of lipids in their multiple forms: as dietary fat, as structural components of cells, as carrier molecules in circulation, as gene modulators, and as precursor molecules for a range of important metabolites. These proceedings provide a comprehensive examination of lipids and the insulin resistance syndrome from the molecular biology of the genes involved through to clinical and population studies on dietary lipids.
