This title responds to the recurring reference problem: to identify languages and dialects, to classify them and, if necessary, to determine the correct spelling. It provides, in alphabetical order and with 18,500 entries and c. 54,000 references, the terms in use for known languages and dialects, including synonyms and references to sources. The second edition has been enlarged by about 30%, with more languages and an updated bibliography.
