The present work covers the Internet and telephony, television, newspapers and radio, with regards to subjects such as ownership, economics, distribution, production and consumption. Television and especially the Internet have been particularly important for the expansion and globalization of the media market. As a consequence, this publication is predominantly centred towards these media and their development. However, since most traditional media are redefined on the Internet, and can be accessed through various media technologies, the borders between different media are blurring, making it increasingly difficult to clearly state the definition of media. This work describes the development of the Internet medium per se, and not specifically the multiple media accessible or generated through it.
