Cinquante ANS de Traite de Rome 1957-2007: Regards Sur La Construction Europeenne

Written by renowned historians from the six founding countries of the European Economic Community (EEC), this work takes stock of the unification process which has been ongoing for 50 years. Starting with the Treaties of Rome and taking into account the treaty signed in Lisbon at the end of 2007, the authors not only describe the main phases of the process but also emphasize the challenges of the European unification project. All phases of the construction are examined in their respective historical context. At a time when the challenges facing the EEC seem greater than ever and many contemporaries doubt that the construction makes sense, the authors intend this volume to be a contribution to a still-current debate. This work is the result of the joint work of a group of historians under the direction of Marie-Therese Bitsch, Professor at the Robert Schuman University in Strasburg and a renowned specialist of the history of European integration.
