It is divided into three parts: Interpretation, Evidence, and Later Developments (which includes a history of continued fractions). The book provides a detailed examination of the ancient texts related to the subject and gives a provocative and radically new interpretation. This second edition now includes new material inserted in the main text and an Appendix of critical discussion of the alternative standard interpretations, a new Epilogue, and a substantially updated Bibliography.
