Biomass, Energy, and Environment : A Developing Country Perspective from India

Developing countries are searching for alternative energy options which promote sustainable development and equity. Modernized bioenergy is shown as an option with potential to meet the rural needs of a large populous country like India along with significant social, environmental, and economic benefits. There is global interest in bioenergy as a sustainable energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction option. This text uses India for a case study for biomass, enery and environment, and could be a model for analysing the potential for biomass energy for other developing countries.
