Psalmody and Prayer in the Writings of Evagrius Ponticus

Bok av Luke Dysinger
Evagrius Ponticus, the most prolific writer of the Christian desert fathers, is often depicted today as having urged the practice of wordless, imageless prayer. In this book Evagrius' often-neglected commentaries on scripture are discussed, together with his better-known works, in order to present a more balanced picture of Evagrius the monk and his model of the spiritual life as a rhythm back and forth between the poles of image-filled prayer based on the scriptures, and imageless, wordless, 'pure' prayer.
