The Legacy of President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine Government - A Study of Human Rights Abuses, Poverty, Gender Inequality and Violation of Child Rights in the Republic of the Philippines

Bok av Dr Mark O'Doherty
Since taking power in July 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte has made his crackdown on drug users and dealers the focal point of his administration, continuing a brutal campaign of violence. In 2018, Filipino deaths related to the Philippine Drug War peaked at 20,000 people, which was equivalent to the entire population of a rural municipality. Violation of Child Rights is also a big problem in the Philippines, occurring on a wide scale to children in socially troubled areas; many poverty-stricken children being the sons and daughters of sex tourists, who visited the Philippines to buy sex - but who left their children behind, representing a United Nations of parentage, and a generation of Philippine children who want to track down their fathers. Critical, but also deeply sensitive and humane, this book endeavours to improve public policy in the Philippines; by exploring both social scientific and ethical approaches, so that human rights, social equality and public health can be improved in the Philippines.
