Pierre-Auguste Renoir

This study examines the sexual, historical and artistic contexts in which Renoir's La Promenade was created, and what it reveals about Renoir as man and artist. The reader is invited to see the work as a rejection of the idealist world of academic art and as a challenge to social and moral norms.
