There are 795,000 new strokes in the U.S. per year. The good news is that treatments are available that can reverse or greatly reduce the damage caused by a stroke, but you need to recognize the symptoms of a stroke and get the patient or yourself to a hospital quickly. Getting treatment within few minutes can prevent disability. Because stroke damages the brain, stroke victims have the best chance of recovery if they or observers recognize the symptoms and act quickly. Stroke is truly a medical emergency. Every minute counts when your loved one is having a stroke. The longer blood flow is cut off, the longer the stroke symptoms lasts on the brain, and the greater the damages will be. Immediate, stat, ASAP treatment can save patients lives and enhance their chances for successful recovery. I was 17 years old when my father had a stroke. After that, I was the caregiver for the rest of his life. Now, I am a neurologist and want to inform the world that we can treat and possibly reverse or improve a stroke if they call an emergency line as soon as they see, feel, or witness anybody having a stroke.
