It was very well received by both readers and reviewers. The Spanish title of the book is "e;La Casa de los espritus."e;The book was highly acclaimed by the literary critics around the world. It made Allende a literary star overnight. In the year of its publication, the novel was declared the Best Novel of the Year in Chile. Allende was awarded the country's Panorama Literario Award.
