Sketches in Duneland (Illustrated Edition)

Bok av Earl Howell Reed
Reed (1863-1931) was an American printmaker, photographer and author born in Geneva, Illinois, the son of the Oriental scholar Elizabeth Armstrong Reed and brother of author Myrtle Reed. He worked for 20 years as a grain broker in the Chicago Stock Exchange but retired in 1910 to pursue his interests in art and writing. He explored the area known as the Dunes on the Southern and Eastern shores of Lake Michigan and found there a landcape that compelled him to sketch and write. He published three self-illustrated books on the Dunes - The Voices of the Dunes (1912), The Dune Country (1916), and Sketches in Duneland (1918) - and in so doing brought much attention to the area and the need to conserve the natural habitat with the result that the Indiana State Legslature established the Indiana Dunes State Park in 1923.
