About the authors: Barbara Smith is an experienced nurse, lecturer and project worker.  She has gained experience in all branches of nursing, in acute and community care, in the NHS and  in the private sector working to improve the quality of the care given to patients. Linda Field works as a Nurse Advisor in Diabetes and is mainly based in primary care. Prior to this she worked as a Senior Teaching Fellow/Education Facilitator based at Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick.
