Jerusalem vs Athens : Unfinished

Bok av Louis Feldman
This book attempts to show that the treatment of the elderly in the United States and in the world is influenced by both the Bible and Greek philosophies. Both of these philosophies were extremely important in forming our society. By examining both Biblical and Greek beliefs, the reader can clearly understand what shaped the occurrences and ethics in America. Rabbi Feldman was on the executive board of Scholl Institute of Bioethics. Scholl tries, by using biblical values, to alleviate pain, suffering, and needless deaths. This book deals with why we should be alleviating pain, rather than killing off Grandma when she gets too old. It all comes down to the worth of the human being, which is radically different in biblical views than in Greek views. In biblical belief, every human being has worth simply by the virtue of being created in the Divine image. In Greek thought, the value of a human being is determined by the kind of contribution he or she makes to society.
