Gerhart Hauptmann (1862-1946) was a German dramatist and novelist who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1912, best known for his 1892 play, The Weavers (Die Weber) which sympathetically portrays a group of Silesian weavers who staged an uprising during the 1840s due to their concerns about the Industrial Revolution. This volume contains Commemoration Masque (Festspiel in deutschen Reimen); The Bow of Odysseus (Der Bogen des Odysseus); Elga; and Fragments Helios and Pastoral (Das Hirtenlied).
