Joaquín Sorolla Wine: Premium
Bok av Cristina Berna
Joaquín Sorolla (born in Valencia 1863 - died in Cercedilla 1923) is one of the most successful Spanish painters ever. He was a genius in capturing the essence of the scene he was painting.
In December 1895 Sorolla met the owner of the winery Panquehue Errázuriz, Rafael Errázuriz, and was subsequently commissioned to paint four works about wine. This appears to be only the second time wine entered Sorolla's artistic world.
The next time wine featured in Joaquín Sorolla's work was in 1907 with An Elderly Castillian Pouring Wine 1907. This man appears again in Aldeanos leoneses also from 1907.
In 1910 Joaquín Sorolla painted scathing criticism of the Basque mentality especially with paintings of drunkards. Sorolla clearly did not support independentism and sponging on the rest of Spain, see also author's Joaquín Sorolla Painter ISBN 978-1-64826-044-5 .
