Pubs of Edinburgh and Glasgow

Bok
From opulent Victorian extravaganzas to 1960s period interiors, a particular delight of Scotland's public houses is their enormous variety. To recognise this rich heritage, Historic Scotland has produced the first in a new series of postcard books containing 20 detachable postcards featuring some of Glasgow and Edinburgh's most historic and beautiful pubs. The venues chosen combine fabulous, iconic interiors with distinctive exteriors. Glasgow pubs include the art deco Steps Bar, which retains many of its original 1930s features, and the Laurieston, a 1960s time capsule still complete with a stand for hot pies. In Edinburgh, the postcards feature the ornate Bennets Bar, the interior of which has remained largely unchanged since 1906, and the sumptuous luxury of the nineteenth century Cafe Royal. Some pubs are grand and extravagant, others understated and simple - yet all are distinctive in their own way, and are still enjoyed by patrons today. Containing stunning, newly-commissioned photography, Pubs of Edinburgh and Glasgow is a unique celebration of an unusual aspect of Scotland's architectural history.
