Britain, 2032. The Olympics return for the second time in twenty years. The bad news is that there is injustice in the courts, a politicized police force, the health service and education are disaster areas, and the latest financial and economic crisis is looming. Matters are aggravated by Islamist terrorism and the latest Troubles in Ulster. Worldwide, a resistant strain of syphilis threatens to become the new Black Death. Against this background of imminent social collapse a group of army officers plan a coup. They are mostly men with a naive belief in God, King and Country, who hanker after a return to a supposedly golden age of the mid-twentieth century. The exception is former SAS captain Richard Tyrrell, who joins the conspiracy reluctantly, with deep reservations both about its aims and chances of success.
