Fisher Folk of the North East

James Leatham?s study of the North East fishing communities is a story of the herring and the migration they instigated.  His stated aim is ?to catch some of the humours of the old-fashioned fisherfolk -  a race dying out or greatly changing with the habits of life begotten of this migratory calling and the gradual emptying of the old villages.? It certainly offers an insight into a time which was fading even when he wrote about it a century ago.
