The Musei Capitolini in Rome possess the largest collection of ancient portraits, with a number of famous works of the highest quality. Following the publication of the female portraits (vol. 3) and the male imperial portraits (vol. 1), this volume presents the Roman male private portraits at length in text and in 232 plates. As there are few general publications of Roman male private portraits, this volume will be an important resource for future research.
