Bearing this in mind, it is noteworthy that under specific circumstances estimations can be used by German criminal courts as legitimate means for determining guilt. This seems to violate the legal principal of establishing precise and objective facts. The author analyses the compatibility of this practice with the structural principles of German criminal procedural law.
