»Balancing Privacy«The doctoral thesis analyses the principles of data protection law with regard to the context of social networks. It determines and describes, from a functional perspective, the legislative tools used by the European Data Protection Regulation and European courts to implement and enact the general principle of balancing. Subsequently, it outlines the specific preconditions that characterise the environment of social networks. Finally, by combining these findings, it investigates to what extent the balancing tools are impacted, altered or even restricted when applied to the processing of data in the specific context of social networks.
