The thesis inquires if and how the Ad-hoc-tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Ruanda reach their sentences and which factors aggravate or mitigate the sentence. A critical review of the rendered judgements demonstrates that the legal practice of the Ad-hoc-Tribunals has room for improvement in this aspect concerning the regions mentioned.
