This volume deals with different aspects of the religious life of Jews on the island of Elephantine. On the background of this populations political, cultural and social circumstances, as well as their analysis regarding the Jewish diaspora in Egypt during Achaemenid times, an overview of all papyri and ostraca found on the island or reputedly from there is given. Additionally, the author critically surveys earlier text collections of these documents and newly transliterates, comments and translates selected papyri and ostraca. German text.
