Climate Change and Transport : Assessment of climate change impacts, freight modal shift and emissions in an Asian context

Bok av Madan B Regmi
Transport sector contributes to the global warming, and also gets affected by the extreme climatic events. Despite numerous global efforts, Asian policy makers are facing daunting challenge to streamline sustainable transport polices. The first part of this book presents the policy maker's perception of impacts of climate change on transport, and postulates adaptation strategies to develop and safeguard a resilient transport system. The second part reviews selected case studies of dry ports development in Asia from environmental perspective, and evaluates alternative locations of dry ports applying the method of AHP. Potential role of dry ports in influencing a freight modal shift to railways from road and resulting emission reduction is quantitatively assessed applying mode choice modeling. For the purpose of these analysis, a case of dry port development in Laos and freight transport along Laos-Thailand transport corridor is taken. Necessary data were generated through original survey of policy makers and freight forwarders. This book, a result of doctoral research, attempts to address the issues of adaptation and mitigation in the transport sector in an Asian context
