Bok av Jalal Bhat
The epilepsies are a spectrum of brain disorders ranging from severe, life-threatening and disabling, to ones that are much more benign, that affects a wide range of people throughout the world. In Unani classical literature, the efficacy of both the drugs i.e. Melissa parviflora and Nepeta bractaeta were already reported for neurological disorders including epilepsy, but no work has done on their anti-epileptic activity. The objectives of the study was standardization and biological evaluation of Melissa parviflora and Nepeta bractaeta. Both drugs, i.e. Melissa parviflora and Nepeta bractaeta possess anticonvulsant and antioxidant activities, this might be due to the presence of phenolic and flavonoid constituents. In conclusion, Melissa parviflora exhibited better anticonvulsant and antioxidant activities than Nepeta bractaeta. This type of research is highly needed for those who are interested in research in herbal medicine and would be helpful to society especially to the tribal people.
