The Book addresses how personal factors influence academic performance in secondary schools. Personal factors such as self discipline determine what actions an individual undertakes knowing very well the consequences. This implies that when an individual knows what is right, he/she will do it without any supervision. Another personal factor which the book studies is self concept which is basically determined by ones environment. A person's self concept determines his/her actions for example, if somebody has high self-concept, he/she may undertake difficult task knowing very well that he/she will succeed. The book also looks into the influence of personal goals on academic performance. Goals determine how individuals plan their actions and what visions they have in life. If the goals are realistic, the individual stands high chances of succeeding in his/her endevours. The book looks at how self-discipline, self-concept and personal goals contribute to academic performance of secondary school students.
