Educational Contributions Of The Benedictine Missionaries : A case of Tirap Division, Marakwet East District of Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, Kenya

The purpose of this study was to investigate the contributions of the Benedictine Missionaries towards secondary school education in Tirap division, Marakwet district, of Eldoret Catholic Diocese, Kenya. The findings revealed that the Benedictines greatly contributed in the provision of secondary school education to the Marakwets in Tirap division. The study found out that the Benedictines built classrooms, provided water pumps, provided teachers accommodation, text books, paid fees for the needy students, acquired land for development and improved methods for self reliance. The study also revealed that the schools taught C.R.E., produced committed Christians, and prepared the students to be morally and responsible citizens. The researcher recommended that the government should provide land for development, construct roads to link all public institutions, and establish ecumenical programmes for different denominations to come together.
