Spermatophore Cryopreservation Of Banana Shrimp, Penaeus Merguiensis : Effects of food type on the quality of spermatophores and subsequent cryopreservation and fertilization in Banana shrimp

Cryopreservation has been the main focus of researchers to enhance the production of shrimp aquaculture, and banana shrimp, Penaeus merguiensis is yet to get attention. This work has yielded an improved technique that might be applied with varying levels of success in this field. Indeed, the development of this new technique though currently constrained by factors which include the technical requirements for scaling-up to commercial operations during the transition from research and the lack of consistent quality management practices and industry standards. However, it is expected hope that in the near future the frozen sperm will be used in breeding programs to successfully promote improved lines and shape the genetic resources available for aquaculture. The cryopreserved sperm of banana shrimp will at some point in near future become an entirely new industry itself.
