Various therapeutic agents or nerve block treatments have been used for the management of post herpetic neuralgia . However some of the cases the analgesic effect was insufficient, doses frequency is very high and associated with undesirable side effects such as nausea, vomiting, edema, sore throat and abdominal pain which are the most common adverse events leading to discontinuation of treatment. Hence transdermal delivery of eutectic mixture of local anesthetic lidocaine prilocaine from cataplasm matrix could be a suitable alternative for the long-term management of post herpetic neuralgia
