Analysis of Stem Borers and Their Parasitoids in Maize and Sorghum : Case of Eastern Ethiopia

Bok av Bulty Bedanie Gemechu
This book tries to analyze the maize and sorghum stem borers and their parasitoids interaction. Few researchers were used general linear Model analysis on the stem borers' data. But, generalized linear model is employed and compared with the results generated by using general linear model. The results showed that the mean density of stem borers is not significantly different in years, between maize and sorghum cereal crops, in the levels of cropping systems, soil textures and existence & non existence of parasitoids. The stem borers and parasitoids interaction is exists but quite insignificant. However, there is more mean density in the main season than off season, significantly small in the stubble stage when compared to the other crop growth stages; maturity and vegetative stages. This implies that there is predator-prey interaction between stem borers and parasitoids. The significance of this finding can be used to devise mechanisms for controlling infestation of stem borers at vegetative and maturity stage of maize and sorghum than during its stubble stage. The parasitoids should be conserved during pesticides spray.
