History, Myths, Legends and Oral Tradition in the Plays of Karnad

The book deals with all the plays of Girish Karnad,a renowned Kannada dramatist with reference to the playwright's theatrical initiatives in terms of content and structures. The study probes in to the concerns of the playwright who has drawn indigenous myths, history and oral traditions in his plays, besides critically analyzing the subjects and dramatic techniques employed by the playwright.The plays are grouped in to four categories-Historical plays, mythical plays,Folk plays, and contemporary play and studied separately.The study sincerely makes an attempt to study the sources and compare them with the plots of the plays.
