Weed Management on Dry Direct Seeded Rice : Weed Management and Economic Assessment of Dry Direct Seeded Rice in Terai Region of Nepal

More than forty weed species causes major losses to dry seeded rice production. Pendimethalin, bispyribac Na alone and combined application of pendimethalin with 2,4-D, bispyribac Na and hand weeding were effective in controlling weeds in DDSR, and producing grain yield in similar to weed free plots. Bispyribac Na alone application had the highest B:C ratio and proved superior herbicide in the DDSR. However, increased weed infestation, poor crop establishment and reduced grain yield were major problems of DDSR, whereas high cost of cultivation and higher water requirement were major constraints of TPR. Thus DDSR is preferred for better return, less irrigation requirement, low cost of cultivation and less drudgery.
