Perception of Students and Teachers on Academic Performance : in Selected Molo Secondary Schools in Kenya

The purpose of the study was to assess the perception of students & teachers on academic performance in selected Molo Secondary schools in Kenya. Specific objectives of the study were; to determine the relationship between poverty & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between School facilities & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between the quality of teachers & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between indiscipline & performance of students in national examinations & the relationship between Home environment & performance of students in national examinations. Methods of data collection were questionnaires & interviews. The study revealed that school facilities are important for students to perform well in examinations & that unqualified teachers do not teach well leading to poor performance in national examinations. The study revealed that children who are indisciplined perform poorly in national examinations and that parents who encourage their children contribute positively to children's performance.
