Livestock rearing is an important part of Indian life. The livestock sector has a crucial role in national economy, particularly in rural economy. For efficient production and maintenance of normal health of animals, it is necessary to provide essential nutrients in appropriate proportion. Apart from protein and energy, minerals are also required for the proper functioning of the animal body. Though they are required in small amounts but they play an important role in the production and health of the animals. It is also essential to have a proper ratio of these minerals in the feeds and animal body because an improper ratio between these minerals interferes with the absorption of other one thereby resulting in deficiency.In most of the tropical countries, deficiency of minerals is frequently encountered in the livestock rations. The important micro minerals Fe, Cu and Zn are extremely important for the animals as they play a vital physiological role in livestock. It is necessary to know the content of these micro minerals in feeds and fodders and at the same time, it is also essential to know the status of these minerals in different tissues have an important role to play in body.
