Global retirement markets are swiftly undergoing structural changes. These changes will necessarily require an adjustment in people's methods of investment towards their own retirement. There is no and can never be a 'one-size-fits-all' solution to address the possible retirement debt-spectre,suitable for all countries around the globe. Nevertheless a carefully drafted plan balancing on the one hand the urgency for an increased level of retirement savings with the call from many economists for consumers to start spending more by overcoming the post-recession effects of holding onto consumables for an unprecedented lengthy period of time, must be drawn up and followed through. Starting off from a study of the Maltese retirement pension system's basic characteristics, along with an analysis of the newly reformed system, moving on to a criticism of the proposals for the amelioration of the current pension system in Malta, as recommended by the 2010 Pensions Working Group and finally closing with an exit plan and a positive vision for tomorrow's pension system in Malta, this thesis can be seen to evaluate and further create an anti-thesis of the newly reformed pension system in Malta
