Admiralty Jurisdiction and Arrest of Ships in Sierra Leone : A study on admiralty jurisdiction and the procedure of ship arrest as an effective tool in enforcing a maritime claim

Bok av Sesay Martha Amelia
To nurture and develop a vibrant maritime industry, it is imperative to put in place a policy and legislative framework that actively promotes the shipping and port operations through, amongst others, the incorporation and subsequent enactment of laws which provide rules applicable or are best adapted to the Sierra Leonean context. This may be further complimented by the domestication of international conventions and agreements. Basically, the Sierra Leone legal system in so far as it touches and concerns admiralty jurisdiction and procedure should be updated to reflect modern realities. This is very important as shipping is international in nature and in order to boost international maritime trade in Sierra Leone, it is imperative that its national legal framework reflects international standards. In consideration of the above, this book examines the subject of Admiralty Jurisdiction and the arrest of ship procedure (as a distinct aspect of enforcing a maritime claim) in Sierra Leone in five summative chapters. Each chapter attempts to discuss various legal aspects of the subject matter.
