Biosorption of Chromium (VI) Tannery Effluent by Filamentous Fungi

Bok av Silas David
The unprecedented discharge of chromium (IV) solution through oxidation process by bioaccumulation, biomagnifications, recalcitrant and toxic effect from chromium (III) by interaction with microorganisms, plants, and humans through biological, chemical and physical means, have seriously affected the growth of plants, microorganisms and humans in a given habitat. However, ingesting of food containing the said amount of chemical recipe in excess above the recommended permissible limit of 0.05mg/l by (WHO) could be mutagenic and carcinogenic to plants, microorganisms and humans. Therefore, this book treats the isolation of fungi from tannery effluent, showing the tolerance level of filamentous fungi to the chromium concentration. The study further establishes the role and efficiencies of Rhozopus nigircans, Aspergillus niger and Penicillium sp play in the absorption, accumulation, degradation and detoxification of chromium (VI) ion in tannery effluent. This study is also on the basis of upgrading and for implementation of advanced technology like exo-polymer and bioreactor technology for effective removal of chromium (VI) ion from polluted water bodies
