Hydrogeochemistry and Quality of Groundwater in a Delta Region : Groundwater chemistry of Delta region

Bok av Pusapati Venkata Nageswara Rao
Delta regions are the centers for food production and country's economic growth as a whole. Salinity is the main constraint for developmental activity. Salinity is caused by the intrusion of seawater on inland aquifers. Besides, aquaculture is the major anthropogenic contaminant of groundwater in the delta region. Groundwater is principal source for drinking, irrigation and industrial purposes. It is considered to be fresh and safer than the surface water because of natural protective cover of soil. However, the original composition of groundwater is obliterated due to influences of geogenic and anthropogenic activities, before and ater reaching the water table.
