Call Admission Control for Wireless Broadband Networks : Overview and proposals for radio resource management optimization for wireless broadband networks

Bok av Hassan Rayan Nagi Makki
There exist many regions in the world where wired infrastructures are difficult to deploy for geographical or economic reasons. Thus, the need for the Wireless Broadband Networks (WBNs) has emerged as an alternative for last-mile Internet access. One of the clear examples of WBNs is WiMAX. To handle a heterogeneous traffic load in a multiservice WBN such as WiMAX, it is important to find a resource management mechanism -such as Call Admission Control (CAC)- that can efficiently allocate resources to different subscribers and applications. This book demonstrates what WiMAX is, and provides a detailed review about the proposed CAC polices presented in the literature. Moreover it proposes a WBN CAC framework which is formulated as an optimization problem with a certain objective function where the demands of both WBN service providers and subscribers are taken into account. Simulation results show that the proposed CAC framework can meet the expectations of both service providers and subscribers. This framework can assure reasonable fairness while achieving better performance in terms of revenue and utility when compared with the constrained CAC approaches presented in the literature.
